Read this book. Even if you are unfamiliar with Justin’s bands, projects, and reputation, it’s unreal. That’s the only word I can use to describe it. I can’t remember the exact time I bought this book, it was either sometime late last year or early this year. Justin’s label announced only a limited availability of his book was in stock. I had never heard of it until that announcement. If you’re like me and you like all of his projects, you probably would have (or did) just bought it on impulse as well. I read about 20 pages after it arrived, but became distracted with my busy schedule, school, work, my band, ect. When Seizures was asked to open for Unbroken in Mexico, the promoter told us that Retox (Justin’s latest band) was also on the bill. I was so excited. The last time I saw Justin before that was at Unbroken’s Che Cafe show in 2010. His band All Leather opened for them and threw everyone off, I loved it. Unknowingly, we followed Retox into Mexico from San Diego, when we arrived Justin and his band got out of the van in front of us, they were really kind and introduced themselves, I think they could tell that we were nervous (Mexico has recently turned into a war zone with it’s drug cartels, but we were in a safe area). I briefly spoke to Justin throughout the night at the show, he was really nice, and I kept thinking about the book and how much this guy has been through. If anyone else had that childhood, I’m sure they wouldn’t be where he is today. My friend and I were talking about the book outside of the Revelation Records show a month ago, he simply described it as “fucked”. It is. And it’s awesome to see someone push through all the bullshit. I don’t want to spoil anything, Justin has all of my respect and he’s an awesome guy.
